Why is a sports trophy a better award than a diploma or voucher?

A diploma ends up in a folder, a voucher gets spent and forgotten. A sports trophy stands on a shelf for years — at home, on a desk, in the club display cabinet. For a top competitor it's a sign of recognition that can be seen, touched and shown off. A well-designed trophy with a form referring to the discipline and a personalised plate becomes part of the athlete's identity. In competitive sport, where every detail counts, the award should be exceptional too.

Can the form of the trophy refer to a specific discipline?

That's one of the foundations of our approach. A sports trophy should immediately communicate in which discipline the distinction was won. We design silhouettes of athletes in characteristic positions (jump, sprint, swing, dive), pieces of sports equipment (a ball, racket, club, oar) or abstractions inspired by the dynamics of movement. The design starts with a conversation about the discipline and the associations these particular trophies should evoke.

How do you make a trophy for the MVP or best player of the season stand out?

An individual award should differ from a team trophy — in size, finish or form. The MVP of the season deserves a larger trophy with a nobler finish (gold, antique gold, bronze) and a dedicated plate with their name and the season. We can also design a unique trophy that becomes a tradition: the same trophy every year, a different name on the plate — like the challenge trophy of a prestigious tournament.

How do you plan the awards for an entire end-of-season gala?

We help design a consistent system of awards: from the trophy for the best player of the season, through awards for the league podium, to distinctions for fair play and progress of the year. Each category can have a different size or finish while keeping a common visual language — the audience at the gala immediately understands the hierarchy of distinctions. We plan everything together so that production is consistent and on time.
